MSK 질리나

The club was founded in the end 1908. The first fight for the Title of Slovak champion the Sport club Žilina won in 1928, when they defeated triplex Slovakia champion the ČsČK Bratislava. One year later “yellow-green” repeated their success. They achieved the most success in 1946/47, when they took 3th place in the 1st Czechoslovakia league behind the Slávia and the Sparta Praha. In 1961 MŠK was in the finale of National cup, when they loosed with the Czechoslovakia champion Dukla Praha. But an attendance in the finale ensured a start in the European competition “ Cup winners cup” to the club. After victory over the Olympiakos Pireus they won through in a quarterfinal, where they defeated AC Fiorentina 3:2 at home, but in Italy they loosed 0:2. In 1969 the club won 4th group of the Inter Cup.

Early in the seventies (seasons: 1971/72, 1972/73, 1973/74) Žilina football players achieved successful standing in a final Czechoslovakia league. In 1970 they took 2nd place in 4th group of the Inter Cup behind the Nederland winner MVV Maastricht. At that time yellow-green colours asserted players like: Plach, Tománek, Golian, Staškovan, Zigo, Gargulák, Smak, Král, Kirth, A. Rusnák, V. Rusnák, Slezák, Gerhát, Podolák – the strong football generation.

From 1996, when the club moved forwards in the 1st league, a new team has built. The head coaches were: Radolský, Šuran, Jánoš, Turianik, Barmoš.
In 1997 the attendance in the Intertoto Cup, where MŠK defeated Austria Vienna, drew the game with the Ondra Wodzislaw and loosed with FC Olympique Lion i Rapid Bucharest.

In 1999 the re-attendance in the Intertoto Cup, where MŠK defeated the BK Herfölge twice 2:0 and the FC Metz 2:1 but then they loosed with FC Metz 0:3.
In autumn in 2000 the coach Jurkemik come into the club, but in the middle of the 2001/2002 season he left for the National team. The team came to wining stay after the autumn part of the league and they became the Slovakia champion under leading of the coach Kalvoda.

In the 2002/2003 season the team, under leading of the coach Lešický, was succeeded in the getting of the title and MŠK became the Slovak champion in this year again. Season 2003/ 2004 didn´t begin at will and visions. In the spring in the April came back Mr. Jurkemik to team, he succeed to bring MŠK Žilina thanks 10 winnings and 3 draws to tertiary getting of title Slovak Champion.
